Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) is the advanced planning and preparations necessary to identify the impact of potential loss, formulate and implement viable recovery plans that ensure continuity of business services and administer a comprehensive training, testing and maintenance program.

There are many uncertainties that could influence your organization’s ability to serve and survive. Events such as loss of power, lack of access to your building, inoperable vehicles, loss of Internet connection and e-mail, or the sudden departure of your executive director or board chair could cause disruptions to business.

When normal business operations are interrupted, an organization uses its business continuity plan to prevent disruption of the delivery of mission-critical services. Regardless of the type or severity of business interruptions, the delivery of services to customers should not be interrupted. Your customers are able to receive needed services and your organization is able to continue to meet its mission. All organizations should have a BC Plan in order to ensure the organization's longevity. Evidence shows that firms that do not invest enough time and resources into BCP preparations cannot survive disasters.
